This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Dallas County, Iowa dating from 1867-1980. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture.

Abstract
The DeSoto Consolidated School possesses a rich history which donor, and former student, Jim Riley is working to preserve. Originally located in Dallas County, Van Meter Township, the DeSoto Consolidated School opened in 1924 and served the children of DeSoto, Iowa, until its closure in 1961.
